USTA Tennis Open Schedule

The same-gender couples tournament will be open to same-sex spouses, those in civil unions, domestic partners and spousal equivalents.

The first such event sanctioned by the USTA, the sport’s national governing body, was held in Palm Springs earlier this month. Other events will be held in Kansas City, Minneapolis and New York City.

In a news release Katrina Adams, USTA’s CEO, said: “The enthusiasm of the competitors – and the high level of competition – proves that these tournaments are an idea whose time has come. We look forward to offering more same-gender events as part of our efforts to make tennis more accessible to more people.”

The USTA said it is considering adding a national same-gender couples championship next year. More local same-sex events are likely to be added to the USTA calendar this year.

The West Hollywood tournament will take place June 5-7 during LA Pride week at the Plummer Park tennis courts. The tournament is open to USTA members. Entries open on April 15 and close at noon June 1. More information, including fees, is available online.
