Tennis Betting tips US Open

US Open Tennis LogoThe fourth and final Grand Slam of the tennis season gets under way on Monday 25th August and will be the 134th time this prestigious tournament has taken place. Reigning Men’s champion Rafael Nadal will be unable to try and defend his title due to a wrist injury but women’s title holder Serena Williams will be attempting to win the US Open for the third year in succession in 2014.

US Open Tennis 2014 Men’s Betting

Novak Djokovic has been put in as the 5/4 favourite with William Hill to reclaim the crown he won three years ago but he has been a little out of form by his own high standards since winning Wimbledon back in June.

Roger Federer, on the other hand, has been rolling back the years of late and arrives in New York off the back of an excellent win at the Cincinnati Masters and is a best price of 7/2 at Sky bet to win his eighteenth Grand Slam and what would be a sixth US Open title.

The big three in the betting are completed by Scotland’s Andy Murray, who Paddy Power make a 9/2 shot. Murray was successful here in 2012 when winning his first Grand Slam, but is going through a somewhat transitional stage and has dropped from 2nd to 9th in the world following injuries and a change in coach.

Men’s tennis has been dominated by four men over the last decade and as the betting on the US Open will tell you, that dominance does not look like coming to an end anytime soon. Rafael Nadal would no doubt have been a relatively short price to retain his US Open title but the three that remain, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, still take up a massive percentage of the book for this tournament.

Novak Djokovic US Open Tennis 2014Novak Djokovic has won both the French Open as well Wimbledon this year and it is little surprise to see the Serbian as favourite to land a third Grand Slam of the campaign. Although his recent results have been mixed, I’d expect Novak to be back to his best for an event like this.

Andy Murray is at his best on hard courts, but his current level of tennis doesn’t make me confident enough to back the 2012 champion. The results of working with new coach Amelie Mauresmo may not bear fruit until next season and I’ll be surprised if Murray can reach the latter stages in New York.

The bet for me as far as the men’s tournament is concerned has to be Roger Federer. While he may have looked a spent force 18 months ago, Federer has re-found his best form in recent times and arrives here off the back of an impressive victory in the Cincinnati Open and should be brimming with confidence. The price of 7/2 with Sky Bet looks more than fair to me.

US Open Tennis 2014 Women’s Betting

Serena Williams has been put in as the 7/4 favourite to complete a hat-trick of US Open victories and I find it difficult to make a case for opposing the world number one. Serena has won a total of five US Opens and has really made the tournament her own in recent years.
