A great shoe even for a Non-California Winter, These shoes are very cute and comfortable. I have another pair of simple shoes that are Mary Janes and I was a little afraid that these shoes would be a little bulky, but they are not. They still have the low profile look, but with better traction then the other simple shoes. I have tested the shoes out in South Dakota snow/ice and they have held up very nicely. These are by far the best 'tennis' shoes that I own when it comes to traction on snow and ice. I have not tested the waterproof quality yet. One thing to note is that the fleece lining does not line the entire inside of the shoe: just the heal and the top part of the tongue and shoe opening. The shoe may be slightly warmer, but since the fleece does not cover much I still get cold toes. Probably would be enough warmth for warmer climates than South Dakota winter - but thicker socks have worked fine. Of course if the weather was really nasty outside I would just wear boots instead.
