2012 Duke Tennis on Campus 20122013 USTA TENNIS ON CAMPUS FALL INVITATIONAL TEAMS ANNOUNCED

Thirty-two Colleges and Universities Selected to Compete in
Season-Opening Tournament, Oct. 11 -13 in Hilton Head Island

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Oct. 1, 2013 – The United States Tennis Association has announced the 32 coed intramural and club tennis teams, representing colleges and universities throughout the country, selected to compete at the fourth annual USTA Tennis On Campus (TOC) Fall Invitational.

The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center in Hilton Head, S.C., will host the event, taking place Oct. 11-13. The winner and runner-up from the tournament will qualify for an automatic bid to compete for the national title at the 2014 USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship in Surprise, Ariz., April 10-12, 2014.

“We’re thrilled for this year’s Fall Invitational, which serves as a national kick-off and builds excitement for the entire Tennis On Campus season, ” said Glenn Arrington, National Manager, USTA Tennis On Campus. “This event continues to gain popularity each year. It’s a great opportunity for players to represent their college or university in a fun and competitive atmosphere.”

tocThis year, 15 schools will make their debut at the 2013 TOC Fall Invitational. Duke University took home top honors at last year’s tournament, besting the University of Virginia, 26-23, in the final.

Participating teams for this year’s 2013 TOC Fall Invitational list include the following schools (representative section in parentheses):

The TOC Fall Invitational is designed to give students the chance to compete against club teams from other colleges to maximize their playing experience and to provide an opportunity to claim an automatic bid into the National Championship.

During the Fall Invitational, students will not only have an opportunity to socialize with other teams but also network with representatives from both the Tennis Industry Association and the Professional Tennis Registry to learn about future career opportunities in tennis. Following the tournament, schools continue to compete around the country on a section level, within the USTA’s 17 sections.
