2014 Tennis Grand Slam winners

Ana IvanovicPrior to 2014, you would not have been wrong to suggest that Ana Ivanovic peaked back in 2008. However, following her remarkable rise in 2014, the Serbian star made it clear that she still has a lot to offer in professional tennis.

Ivanovic won four of her fifteen career titles in 2014, defeated Serena Williams in the fourth round of the Australian Open, and rose to No. 5 in the rankings by the end of the season.

The Serb credits her development and adaptation for her career resurgence.

“I use more variety, I come to the net more often, ” Ivanovic told The Sport Review. “I just enjoy building on my game. I really feel I have the game to be at the top. I was No. 1 before, and I want to give myself the best chance to get back there. So I’m really working hard to get back. And of course to win another Grand Slam is my dream.”

Having successfully proven that she belongs in the upper echelon of the WTA roster, Ivanovic’s main goal in 2015 is to try and win another Grand Slam title. If anything, her victories over the top players this season have given her the necessary confidence to push further in the coming year.

“Having more success at the Slams next year is definitely my main goal for 2015, ” she said. “It’s very encouraging to consider that I finished fifth even though I didn’t have good results in the biggest events, the Slams. One of the most encouraging sides was that I was able to beat the very top players: Serena, Sharapova, Halep, for example.

“The next step is to do it more consistently at Grand Slams. I really believe I can do it, and that’s what it will take to win another Grand Slam.”
