I am writing this in my hotel room in Eastbourne, where the WTA and ATP tours have come for their pre Wimbledon tournaments.
We are by the seaside and despite the slightly volatile weather it’s impossible not to be charmed by the beauty of the beach, the sea, the pier and the promenade. Eastbourne has lots of quaint tea rooms and cafes which cater to the visitors, many of whom are older people who choose to spend some or all of their retirement or holidays here.
However this week the streets and restaurants are full of tennis players, coaches and their attendant wives, girlfriends and partners, including this week none other than Rory McIlroy supporting his partner Caroline Wozniacki.
Tennis Spring/Summer Fashion
When I was in Paris my favourite of the top four ATP players was not there so instead of frazzling over the usual “Murraycoaster” matches I had time for other matters. Which meant I started paying attention to the outfits worn by the players and spotting some of the trends, both good and bad (although fashion is a matter of taste so one person’s fabulous outfit is another’s nightmare).
I always enjoy seeing what the clothing companies will come up with each new season so I enjoyed photographing and cataloguing some of the more interesting fashion statements. So today I thought it might be fun, before we start the fortnight of strict Wimbledon white only clothing, to share some of the outfits and trends that have graced the tennis courts recently.
Here are some outfits that have caught my attention over the last couple of weeks
Stay tuned, there are a few more tennis fashion articles to come!
