US Open Tennis Campo - Tennis Review

US Open Tennis Campo

With Wimbledon right behind us and the US Open dead ahead, tennis fervor is at its fever pitch. For those inspired to drop shot it like they’re Djokovic, here are five luxury resorts with gorgeous courts and gifted instructors to help improve your ball game.

Guests are spoiled for space at this 7, 000-acre hotel and resort on Dominican’s southwest coast. Just five minutes from the La Romana airport, Casa de Campo dubs itself the Wimbledon of the Caribbean. Located on a lush hillside, their La Terraza Tennis Center features 13 fast-dry Har-Tru courts. They offer rentals and private lessons with USPTR trained professionals and junior professionals. Visit the Thursday before Labor Day and take in their Casa de Campo Cup, an international tennis tournament they’ve hosted for the last 30 years.

Set within 40 acres of olive groves and gardens, this award-winning resort of hacienda-style suites is 30 minutes north of San Diego and 15 minutes from Solana Beach surfing (if you’re into that too). Catering to active guests, it’s consistently ranked Southern California’s top tennis resort by Tennis Magazine. There are 18 plexi-pave championship courts to use, and a staff of USPTA and USPTR pros to show you how to rock them—whatever your experience level.

Take care of that tennis elbow with a spa treatment (their spa wins awards too), and warm up for your next round with a yoga or Pilates class. The health-conscious will be pleased to know their Coastal Ranch restaurant serves up grass-fed, pasture-raised meats and lots of locally grown herbs and produce.

Located outside Charleston on Kiawah Island beachfront, this family-friendly resort with plenty of accolades may lead with golf, but it’s just as properly equipped for tennis. Here there’s the Roy Barth Tennis Center—overseen by former pro and founding APA Tour member, Roy Barth—with its nine Har-Tru courts and three hard courts, as well as the West Beach Tennis Club with 10 Har-Tru courts and two hard courts. Both provide a smorgasbord of programming for all ages and abilities including private lessons, instructional clinics, camps and round-robin tournaments.
