Welcome Mammoth Huskies Sports Fans to the 2013 fall season and to The Sheet’s expanded coverage of Mammoth High School Sports beginning now! The Mammoth Huskies Sports Teams are set to begin action this Friday. Come on out to a match, meet, or game and support your Mammoth Huskies and get weekly scores and highlights here!
Head Coach Marty Thompson’s and his Mammoth Football Team kicks off the 2013 season at 7 p.m. tonight, Sept. 6 at Gault-McClure Stadium against the Rosemond Roadrunners. The Huskies are anxious to start the season and have been working hard with assistant coaches Gault, McClure, Jones, Trujillo, Graef and Escalier to prepare for the opener. Huskies former quarterbacks Tyson Kaylor and Bubby Greene are also on the practice field helping out. It’s always been amazing to see the coaches transform a bunch of individuals going 11 different directions the first snap of pre-season to a team of athletes that can execute play after play as one. The Huskies are looking for a big Huskies crowd to help them get their season started tonight. Right now the Huskies don’t quite have enough players to field a JV team but as school gets rolling and potential players return it is possible they may be able to garner enough players to play some JV games.
Varsity and JV Girls Volleyball is ready to start the 2013 season with Head Varsity Coach John Morris and JV Head Coach Janet Shipley at the helm, respectively. They will be assisted this season by coaches Kevin Gilfoy and Steve Shipley. Huskies Volleyball has drilled hard getting ready for their season opener at home on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. at home against Big Pine. I’ll see you at the gym to get a feel for this year’s team.
The Mammoth High School Cross Country team, both boys and girls, is slated to start today, Friday, Sept. 6 at Whittel up in Tahoe. I’m looking forward to following the cross country team this year and bringing you some of the personailties that make up the team. Mammoth is loaded-up all summer with running teams from all over. Do you think Huskies runners have an advantage coming from altitude? Yeahhhh!
It will still be a couple weeks before the tennis team gets to see action. Mammoth Huskies Tennis has its first matches on Sept. 24 in Bishop.
