High School Tennis players
This week across the Lone Star State, the stakes are raised for tennis players.
Seven Bowie High School tennis players will be competing at the Conference 3A Region 2 meet set for Tyler Junior College’s Murphy Tennis Center in Tyler. The center is located at 1020 S. Palmer Avenue in Tyler.
Meanwhile, five more regional players are set for competition at the Conference 1A Region 3 meet at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
Bowie High School head tennis coach David Hall reported the top-two teams in boys and girls singles and doubles and mixed doubles will advance to the state meet.
The University Interscholastic League state tournament will take place on May 12-13 at the Mitchell Tennis Center and Omar Smith Instructional Courts at Texas A&M University in College Station.
“There are no consolations, ” Hall said. “There’s going to be more excitement, and more pressure.”
Hall said this meet is different than others because the Rabbits will stay overnight at the location of their tournament.
At the regional meet, Hall said Brock and Glen Rose will be two of the top teams.
Hall is proud of the seven players who will compete in the regional meet: Girls’ singles standout Katelin Price, two girls’ doubles teams comprised of Meagan Russell and Myah Russell and Veronica Hernandez and Stephanie Crawford and the mixed doubles duo Cameron Gunter and Maria Gonzalez.
All of these players, except for Gunter, are juniors. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.
Bowie’s Stephanie Crawford will represent the school in girls’ doubles at the Conference 3A Region 2 meet Monday and Tuesday at Tyler Junior College.
